Pleased to Meet You

I think this might be my third or fourth time trying to start writing a consistent blog. Here's to persistence!

The problem is, I'm busy. I know I'm preaching to the

choir, right? Eleven years ago, I left my job as a middle school English teacher to start a family. The ensuing 10 years found me raising two FANTASTIC kiddos whom I love with every ounce of being I have.

I picked up work here and there, just enough to put something under the Christmas tree but not enough to pay taxes on (should I actually put that in writing?).

But as my kids started school full time, I felt a restlessness. More than that, I felt an irresponsibility. I thought, "I have something to share with the world! Something I'm passionate about a love doing." That's how I stumbled onto freelance writing. It allowed me to be a full-time mom yet express my creativity and support others in their passions as well. Win-win!

Fast forward a couple of years, and I decided to take it up a notch. Out of diapers and fully feeding themselves (yes, that day will come for you all!), my kids' independence allowed me a little more professional freedom.

Story Trekker emerged from a long process of trial-and-error as well as some calculated risk taking. Let me be clear: I'm not one of those bloggers who makes $100,000 a year and has over a million followers...yet. :) But what I do have is enthusiasm, passion, and creativity...in abundance, and it's my hope that I can share this an other things with you in this blog.

So here's what I got:

  • a thriving passion for reading, books, and giving parents the tools they need to help their kids develop a love of literature

  • loads of ideas and resources for teachers to implement in their classrooms in a practical, purposeful way

  • some experience at this parenting thing; I've got moments of victory and HUGE mess-ups, but I'm not embarrassed or ashamed by them and would love to encourage others in their parenting through sharing my own experiences

  • a witty sense of humor and a winning personality (that is to say you're not going to be getting fashion tips from me - I spend most of my time in leggings and sweatshirts)

My goal is to post once a week for now, most likely Monday or Tuesday. I hope you'll join me, share the blog, and be kind of enough to introduce yourselves too.

This isn't rocket science or some kind of special talent. It's community. And I hope you'll be a part of mine.

xoxo

Leslie
